WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS WORKSHOP?

  • Becoming aware of the theme within you that is ready to take shape.
  • Gather inspiration that feeds your chosen theme, in the form of texts, poems, music, film clips, painting, photography, nature, media …
  • Creating a storyboard.
  • Creating abstract basic compositions in space that allow your theme to come to life.
  • Expressing your theme through your body language.
  • Using intuitive behavior to create patterns, rhythm and movements that drive your theme.
  • Create phrases of movement through improvisation from your inner intuition and need, drawing the beginning of your creation.
  • Defining a frame where the beginning, middle and end are a starting point for your final short or long choreography/creation/concept.

WHO IS ISABELLE BEERNAERT?

Isabelle Beernaert (25-10-1973) is a Flemish choreographer, director and scenographer of modern dance-theater productions.

She has built a career as a professional dancer, teacher, coach and choreographer-producer. She completed professional training in Classical Ballet, various modern and contemporary techniques and ethnic dance techniques, natural movement methods, visual arts and music. To this adding spiritual, holistic, ancient knowledge and philosophies of different cultures.

Laura Vanhulle – Discover together, understand together, embody together

WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS WORKSHOP?

How can you create a composition based on partnering? This playful partnering workshop explores the connection between body and space. Using a series of assignments inspired by somatic exercises, martial arts and architectural composition, participants explore the basics. Participants are encouraged to: use sensory awareness, work with composition, make choices, take risks, express themselves authentically and let go. This workshop is designed for movers who want to expand their creative thinking and movement. Each day is built step by step, confidence and fun is the foundation. The intensive three days supports the development of choreographic skills.

WHO IS LAURA VANHULLE?

Belgian-born Laura Vanhulle moved to the UK in 2006 to complete her BA(hons) degree at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and was selected for an internship with Ace Dance and Music, Shobana Jeyasingh (Counterpoint) and Motionhouse (The Voyage). Since then, she has built a successful career and performed for various companies and choreographers, including Ace Dance and Music, Gary Clark, Gustavo Oliveira, Rogue Play, South Paw dance Company, Mickael Marso Riviere, Oliver Robert Russell, Coda Dance Theatre, Keneish Dance Theatre, Sonia Sabri Company, Room2Manoeuvre, Autin Dance Theatre and James Wilton, with national and international tours.

Peter Kongs – choreographing for musicals and show dance

WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS WORKSHOP?

Do you create dance performances for musicals or show dance of any kind? For three days, Peter Kongs immerses you in the rich tradition of the musical. How do you begin a choreography? How do you create movement material for your musical or show dance? How does the movement material relate to the music? How do you create group formations and allow formations to evolve? What are logical and convenient transitions? He gives you a palette of choreographic systems that you can use for your creation.

Peter diligently imparts this and much more to help you in your creative process.

WHO IS PETER KONGS?

Peter Kongs began his training in classical and modern ballet at the Ballet Academy of Brabant and at Mudra in Brussels. He studied jazz dance with Jac Delsing among others and later with Steps 74th and David Howard Dance Center in New York. He danced with Pro Arte Gymnastica, Broadway Dance ’87 and Dancin’ Hollywood in Tokyo (Japan) and participated in West Side Story by the Royal Ballet of Flanders. He has performed in dance videos, commercials, operettas, musicals and made several TV appearances. He is now the head of dance and stage manager in the musical department of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, teaches specific didactics of musical dance and is stage manager in the educational master musical, the Kunsthumaniora Brussel, the academy of Lebbeke and Studio Dansemble. He also gives refresher courses and internships for dancers and dance teachers at Fedes, Amsterdam Dance Center, KVT and OVSG, among others. Furthermore, he works as a choreographer for Broadway Dance Center Tokyo, Marisa Allen, Studio 100, VTM, VT4, Ketnet and others in programs such as Let’s Dance and Tegen de sterren op.

When? Saturday 9, Sunday 10 and Monday 11 November 2024

  • Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where?

Dansstudio Danspunt (Dok Noord, Sint-Salvatorstraat 18a, 9000 Ghent)

Language?  Dutch or English depending on registrations.

Price?

Danspunt uses the principle of Pay what you can. You choose how much you pay: the suggested contribution, the support rate or the reduced rate.

  • Reduction rate: 120 euro
