Every year she creates a full-length dance-theater production with an authentic story that speaks to and touches the audience. In addition to her short fragment choreographies since 1985 during her professional training and afterwards for theater, moder and television, she has been creating full-length dance-theater productions since 2011 with spread tours in Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal.
Combining her strong classical and technical training at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp (Belgium), founded by Jeanne Brabants, and her experience and knowledge in theater, fashion, visual arts and media, she appeals to a wide audience: not only art lovers, but also ordinary people looking for an evening of art, culture or an authentic story with emotion. She continues this bridging function .
She does not experiment excessively and strives for a balance between abstract and non-abstract: there is enough material close to human beings, according to Isabelle. She walks the middle ground between the structure of story-telling and the many short, modern conceptual choreographies.
Isabelle’s life is dedicated to dance and music, but also to being human, being a mom, being a wife and being a friend.
She works from the cultural and living heritage that she carries within her in what she feels, thinks and does and has become a passionate dance philosopher and coach, following disciplined training at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, with specializations in modern and contemporary dance (Graham, Limon, Cunningham, Horton and floor technique), ethnic dance (such as Flamenco, Classical Spanish dance, Bulgarian dance, Indian dance, African dance), and studies in visual arts and conservatory in music (solfeggi, piano and saxophone).
To this adding spiritual, holistic and philosophies of different cultures ( System constellation, Shiatsu, Reiki, Qigong, Yoga, Shamanism …)
Natural movement methods ( Authentic movement, Somatics, 5 rythms, Feldenkrais method )
She has also increased her knowledge by being curious about the polarity between a classical dancer and a breakdancer, and so she has also practiced and studied these more Urban techniques.
With full dedication, she searches for the creative life force in people. Seeing the people around her grow, their awakening, their nakedness, their courage to present themselves fully with their pure primal power. This continues to fascinate and fuel her.
She quotes, “All of our existence revolves around creation, which stimulates life energy. I make my productions to touch people at different levels of consciousness. Dance is a silent language that tells and moves so much at the same time. I experience choreography as a magical world where there are no laws or limitations.’
Within a confusing world where everything revolves around competition and efficiency, she also creates contexts in which young and old can develop as a person and as a dancer. In this way she also offers young trained dancers from various cultural backgrounds at home and abroad a platform to move on from their training to the professional field and grow into a fully-fledged performing artist. Thanks in part to her working method, they engage in a personal physical and spiritual transformation journey.
Isabelle also conducts workshops, master classes, clinics, development and research programs for both amateur and professional dancers of all ages, as well as non-dancers interested in story, movement, working around experiences from their own lives, and the personal baggage this brings.
At a young age, Isabelle Beernaert began creating dance pieces, a mission, a passion that she never lets go of and in which she dares to reveal her whole soul. Through her creations, she tells the everyday life of man, the non-obvious, the underlying emotions, the deep, the passion that makes us live.
